Imagine that you’re riding your motorcycle and approaching an intersection. You see a car heading toward your from the opposite direction. Suddenly, the driver turns left and into your right-of-way. You apply the brakes and put the bike down. The car drives off and you are seriously injured through no fault of your own.
It sounds like a clear case of negligence, with the driver of the passenger vehicle being at fault. The insurance company, however, may take a different approach to the motorcycle accident. An adjuster may try to argue that you were somehow at fault. See Motorcycle Accident Attorney Hartford Ct
It’s a common misconception that most motorcycle accidents are due to aggressive riding by the motorcyclist. The unfair stereotype people have of motorcycle riders is that they are reckless speed demons. The insurance companies are aware of this misconception and will try to use it against the rider who is filing a claim.
Hartford motorcycle accident lawyers at the Law Offices of Mark E. Salomone & Morelli in Connecticut have experience representing clients injured in motorcycle wrecks. In many cases, the motorcycle collision occurred because the car driver or truck driver did not see the motorcycle. Sometimes a small motorcycle is hidden in a blind spot as it approaches a larger vehicle. At night, a motorcycle may be harder to see than a passenger vehicle. It’s crucial that drivers carefully check their blind spots or survey the intersection before turning onto a road or merging.

Over the last few years, an interesting trend among motorcycle riders has developed :
Riders are getting older and more affluent.
There’s a good chance that the motorcyclist you see approaching you as you steer your car is likely to have gray hair and a top-of-the-line bike. The image of the mature, well-heeled rider flies in the face of the misconception many folks have about riders as young, speed demons. See: File Motorcycle Accident Lawsuit Massachusetts
A recent study by the consumer research firm Scarborough, which examines the spending habits of the aging Baby Boomer generation, finds that 7 percent of boomers live in a household with a motorcycle. At the same time, the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration reports that 54 percent of motorcyclists killed in crashes in 2009 were age 40 or older. Ten year earlier, that age group accounted for 41 percent of the fatal motorcycle accidents.
Focusing on a younger group of riders, in 2009 riders under 30 years old accounted for 27 percent of all motorcycle accident fatalities in the United States, according to the NHTSA data. In 2000, 35 percent of the total motorcyclists killed in crashes were under 30.

A new study finds that women are more likely than men to be injured in a car accident. According to the report, females face a greater risk of car accident injury possibly because cars lack safety features tailored to women.
The study, published in the American Journal of Public Health (AJPH), relied on national traffic accident statistics from 1998 to 2008. Women are not necessarily in more auto accidents, but the design of safety devices like seatbelts and airbags may provide greater protection for men due to their larger size and their preferred seating position, according to the results. The report found that female drivers wearing seatbelts were more likely to be injured and sustained more chest and spin injuries than men wearing seatbelts in similar crashes. According to the study, women face “a higher risk of lower extreme injuries . as a result of their relatively smaller stature, preferred seating posture and a combination of these factors.” Women drivers using a seatbelt were 47 percent more likely to be injured than a belted male driver in a comparable crash.
While the study is pretty scary for women, the best thing you can do is to pick a car best suited for you. Some cars are a better fit for smaller drivers. Also, sit a safe distance from the air bag, which can cause harm to drivers who are not at least 10 inches away from point where it deploys. Make sure the seatbelt fits comfortably and securely. Make any adjustments if necessary.
